Coming off a banner year in 2007, John Sparrow (DJ Khemlab) is poised to continue expanding his reach across North America and the globe throughout 2008. In late 2007 Khemlab was featured on Intersessions at TopWebRadio in Brazil with his show “Metro”, regularly aired on puredj.com, as well as an exclusive mix for Red River Melodies on party107.com out of Missouri. His live show from the Purple Room in Kitchener was re-broadcast repeatedly on amplifiedradio which plays to over 25 radio stations around the world, including etn.fm in Atlanta. Live shows included an Eastern tour with headlining gigs in Montreal and Kitchener, as well as local gigs in Winnipeg along side the likes of Signum and Bryan Jones. In Winnipeg Khemlab has also made regular headlining appearances at nights such as Elevate @ Pharoahs and Essential Wednesdays @ The Vibe Nightclub. Khemlab has been taking the techno scene in Central Canada by storm, since his first residency at Havinit-Large @ Zen Lounge Nightclub after only DJing for two years. In 2007 Khemlab was resident at the very popular Ritual Fridays afterhours. Notably in 2006 he opened for Judge Jules at the Empire Cabaret and for DJ Dan in May 2007 at Pharaoh’s Nightclub in Winnipeg, in addition to playing alongside Ronski Speed, BK and Marco V over the past few years. In 2007 he also headlined Red Heartz and Get Down with Crown in Thunder Bay, Ontario, two parties integral to creating the electronic scene in North-western Ontario. Versatile in his programming, solid in his mixing and known for bringing people to their feet with his energy filled performances, Khemlab has established himself as one of Winnipeg's best and most respected DJs. As a producer, Khemlab (also known as Norman J) continues to push the sounds of hard and funky-edged techno, including collaborations with his long time friend DJ Dizz under the name Earthbase 1. Be on the lookout for some bangin tunes from this duo in 2008, not to mention some solid dj sets by the two at live events. Khemlab’s reach extends beyond the stage as well; in 2003 he became a founding member of Crown Productions along with friends DJ Dizz and Dubbz, helping to re-rejuvenate the then-ailing Winnipeg electronic music scene. Crown have become one of the most well-respected promotion companies in Winnipeg, throwing such events as the legendary Evil Dead, Where the Wild Things Are, and Winnipeg’s most successful New Years’ Eve event, Back to the Future which celebrated its’ fifth anniversary in 2007 with the largest NYE dance event Winnipeg has seen to date, at the historic Pantages Playhouse Theatre.
